Soybean Oil Soap

Soybean oil soap has a few draws to soap makers: it offers many of the same characteristics as tallow or lard soap without the incorporation of animal fats within your products. Therefore, some people use soybean oil (vegetable shortening) as a vegan alternative. Soybean oil is also very inexpensive.

If you're planning to use soybean oil as an animal fat alternative, you may want to consider using palm oil instead. Palm oil, in my opinion has somewhat more to offer to your soaps then soybean oil. Just be sure that you only use a sustaibable source of palm oil. Sustainable source palm oil along with many other soap making ingredients is now available on this page of soap-making-resource.com. Check out the selection today!

If you're looking for the best all natural skin care ingredient for soap making, soybean oil is not really it! In fact, soybean oil soap does not really offer any real skin care benefits.

Now don't get me wrong, soybean oil is not bad for your skin but it just doesn't stand out on your label as one of those great skin care oils like sweet almond oil or avocado oil does. Some people consider it to be a skin care neutral because it does not offer any benefits or detriments.

Despite the downsides there are some positives to using this oil for soap making.

  1. It's extremely cheap
  2. it's easy to find
  3. It offers a decent lather to your finished product.

If you do decide to use soybean oil in your soaps, make sure that you purchase the highest grade possible. Also, do not use it as a majority oil, but use it in conjunction with other more beneficial ingredients like olive oil and coconut oil.
